Our Wedding Song

Thursday, July 22, 2010

One of my sorority sisters and her friend sang Spend My Life With You as I walked down the aisle at my wedding. As the saying goes, "they put their foot in it." I think everyone in the church got goose bumps. I know I did.

I spent a lot of time searching for our wedding song. It was not easy considering that the most popular "love" song at the time was Let's Just Get Married (otherwise known as We Might As Well Do It). When Eric Benet released this single I knew we had our song. It was so unbelievably good and it underscored our commitment to spend our lives together. I wanted our witnesses to know that we were in it for the long haul, not just for the wedding day. It was the perfect song for our wedding day...for our marriage. We just celebrated our 10th anniversary last week! I still get chills when this song comes on the radio.

Cool song, very romantic! We didn't have a song as we got married in Vegas. We actually planned it that way. When I was in college, I was an apprentice to a wedding photographer. By the time we got married, one week after I graduated from college, I had been to 100's of weddings and become very disenchanted with the whole thing. I wanted to elope actually, but we did the Vegas thing so that our parents wouldn't get totally pissed. I ended up wishing we had just eloped because my in-laws (mostly my SIL) made it so darn complicated and threw tantrums about everything (my first inkling of what awaited me with her).

I remember this song. Listening to it, I can pic my husband & I. We didn't have a large wedding so no wedding song for us.

I sure wish I could say I had a wedding song. We had our reception in a suite at MGM Grand in Vegas. No DJ so it didn't work out the way I had dreamt about. Perhaps when we renew our vows, we can redo that part :O)

Stopping by from Mama Kat's.

Isn't it awesome how "your song" brings feelings up in you. Our song literally makes me cry when I think about the memories that go with it. I picked this prompt too. Congrats again on your 10th anniversary.

My sister used that song in a photo montage of our relationship at our rehearsal dinner. It can bring me to tears depending on my mood.

We didn't have a good unified song. Our first dance was to a song he chose Musiq Soulchild's "Greatestlove". I love the lyrics but don't like the song. Since I controlled everything else with the wedding - I let him have that LOL. My song for us is Amel Larrieux's "Makes Me Whole".

That is so beautiful! I've never heard it before.

When my husband and I got married nearly TWENTY YEARS AGO, my cousin, who is like a sister to me, sang at our wedding. The song we really wanted her to sing was a song by Glen Mederios called 'Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You'. However, we were unable to find the music for it, so the one I ended up choosing was one by Anne Murray called 'You Needed Me'. The words to that song SO perfectly described our relationship and were very fitting for our wedding day. Of course, as I said, it was almost 2 DECADES ago, so it probably sounds very old to most people, but the words still mean so much. :0)

Thanks for sharing. I may have to do the same thing on our 20th anniversary in a couple of months.

I LOVE that song! I still listen to it on my iPod.

We chose I Do by Boyz II Men. Just simply perfect!

I love hearing our song too. :) We made a mix CD with some of the fun favorites from our wedding reception and still pop it in the car once in awhile. TO loves it.

Happy Friday.
