Baby Log: 1 Year and 4 Weeks Old

Sunday, September 12, 2010

The theme for this baby log is quality time with family.

Marlie and Me are back from our week at the beach and we are settling back into our routine. Sleep has been disrupted because Marlie got used to falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves and then sleeping with us every night. Back home, she is waking up every hour because she misses the arrangement at her godmother's house. So Damon and I are grumpy right now, not to mention that we both picked up a cold on the flight back thanks to some coughing kids sitting directly behind us. Still, the trip was worth it and I would do it again.

During our vacation Marlie discovered...
  • How fun it is to have a big kid to play with and teach you new things. Marlie is a quick study. She now furrows her brow just like her Big Cousin.

Marlie and her Big Cousin Lennon
  • Climbing. She was already climbing our stairs, but her abilities grew by leaps and bounds on this trip. Now she's on top of the couches, the tables, chairs...and I have a few more gray hairs.
  • Her Southern roots. Her father's clan gave her banana nut bread, cheese grits, and crab claws.
  • Ice. On the plane she sucked all the ice out of our cups. It was the only thing that calmed her down on the flight back home.
Some other highlights from our trip...
  • Damon went swimming with his cell phone in the pocket of his swim trunks. {sigh}
  • We ate great food at Lulu's restaurant owned by Lucy Buffet, Jimmy Buffet's sister.

  • I read a book from cover to cover for the first time in over a year! My vacation read was The White Queen by Philippa Gregory. She writes historical fiction about the medieval royal families...I'm obsessed with her books! I also started The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson...I'm captivated and cannot wait to watch the movie adaptation when I am finished reading the book!

Glad you're vacation was so much fun! We're still at the Disney Resort in California ourselves. I started to read the 3rd book in the Steig Larson series, not realizing it was the newest, and I didn't like it. Everyone I know loves the series though, so I guess I'll go back to the beginning and try the first book. I'll also check out the other author you mention. I have fallen behind on my reading list since V was born. It is now about 200 books long. Part of it is all the online reading I do is replacing a lot of the book reading I used to do. I guess I should reflect on that some as I do miss my books...

Sounds like a fun family trip. I love those. It appears that you all had a good time and Marlie did some "maturing." LOL. I'm sure she is growing so fast and doing some amazing things right before your eyes. Glad you guys had a good time and oh btw, my husband did the same thing. A few years ago while we were at the beach in Panana City Florida, he jumped in the pool with his brand new cell phone and that was that. Haha :) It happens

I LOVE the family portrait. You look so blissful and beautiful Teresha...still a skinny minny like that adorable little bikini shot ; )

I know the climbing and getting into everything is just around the corner for us, but I am SOOOOO not looking forward to that phase. I have enough gray hairs already!!

How great to be able to finish a book for a change, huh? I love Philippa Gregory books. The Other Boleyn Girl is one of my favs. Still need to read The White Queen. Also, I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo right now too. It might take a month or so, but I'm going to finish it come hell or high water!! Enjoy!

My husband also swam in the ocean with our car keys in his pocket and so now it's bye bye automatic locks and alarm! This vacation sounds awesome! Reading a whole book while doing it? Priceless.

My best, Lynn

Your vacation sounds like a little piece of heaven! Sleeping in, reading a book from cover to cover...the life!

I read (and loved) The Other Boleyn Girl but have yet to read any more of PG's novels. A friend of mine turned me on to historical fiction and everything she recommends - I've really liked...no matter how strange and uninteresting the book sounds. Check out Molokai by Alan Brennert or City Of Dreams by Beverly Swerling if you haven't already!

I loved the first Dragon Tatoo book. I have the second but just need to get started. I have so little time to read. I need a Kindle for real!

Nice to know you can still read LOL

I love the Granny pic. I'm big into generational pics.
