Toddler Log: Two Years and 19 Weeks Old

Sunday, December 25, 2011

Guess who was an angel on the plane ride back home on Monday? I can hardly believe it. Little Miss sat in her chair, ate snacks, played with the little girl in the seat next to us, and read books for three whole hours! I heart swelled with pride and gratitude (because I could not bear a repeat performance of our plane ride down to Miami).

On another note, American Airlines has to be the least family-friendly airline I have had the displeasure of flying. Does bankruptcy mean that you stop caring about good customer service?! On the plane to Miami we got stuck with four other families in the back of the plane otherwise known as the ghetto. It's also the nosiest part of the plane. On the way back the check-in agent gave us opposite aisle seats! Like I am going to sit across the way from my two-year-old for three hours. We switched places with some nice sisters traveling with their parents. Oh, and the biggest insult was no snacks with craft service...just water, soda and juice. My stars, what next? Asking customers to bring their own airplane fuel?

Marlie really enjoyed her time in Miami. She has been asking to go on the plane to see her uncle "An-ju" every day since we got back. It makes me sad that she doesn't get the benefit of growing up around her relatives, but there is nothing I can do about that. It's not like I am going to move back to Miami. That would be mental masochism. Family...can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. sigh.

Having Marlie home these past two weeks got me thinking about homeschooling. Her speech just exploded in Miami, which I attribute to being around her older cousins. Marlie is no shrinking violet. She kept up with those two. Her new favorite word is "yep." She's a true Texan. I have been having a blast teaching her new things like how to use my old camera and wrapping gifts (now she wants to label and stick everything under the tree). But by Tuesday, I was ready for a break, so she will be returning to school on January 2nd. hee.

We are celebrating another quiet Christmas at home. Opening presents and eating breakfast in our PJs and going to church. Then we are going out to eat because it's more fun to have someone else cook and clean up!I also have to figure out how to increase my twitter ratio because I hot my follow limit!

Merry Christmas!

I used to be able to grab an early morning flight out of BOS (Boston Logan) to SMF (Sacramento Metro) via MCI (Kansas City) and have, at least, a row of seats to sleep on until I got to MCI.

No more. I fly 1st class or I don't fly.

The situation with kids not sitting w/ their parents seems a little unsafe. First, I don't know that many elephant jokes. Second, as much as I like kids, I have no idea what is 'normal' for someone else's child.

Sitting next to this big, hairy guy can't be any fun for a child either. Parents might not like it much either - even though I usually have Road Runner/Wiley Coyote cartoons on the iPad...

Most kids in 1st class get to sit next to their parents, thank goodness.

I think eating out on holidays makes good sense. Without too many relatives? Genius!

I haven't been able to get on certain blogs for a while. SHaune thinks it's our wireless. I'm using my playbook (apparently my husband thinks we're rich-or maybe he was tired of me commandeering the laptop).

I'm so proud of that little Marlie!

I attribute a lot of how "advanced" jasmine is to being around all those kids everyday. I wish I could be with her during the week but since I can't I'm glad she can be with friends and learn things.

I flew AA when we came to texas for mothers day weekend. They had snacks. Now from your review, I don't wanna fly with them anymore. I'll stick to delta lol

One time there was a seating error and all four of my kids - aged 9 and under got seated in random places all over the plane. Fortunately, people were happy enough to trade places. Yet, one time the same happened to my mother, brother, and I. I was about 7-8 years old. I loved collecting all of the "empty bottles" from the people next to me. I later used the bottles to make pretty candles. It was amazing how the people kept getting "nicer and nicer" on that flight. It was quite educational for me. It was not until I was an adult that I figured out what the those bottles were. :-)

I'm so, so happy for you and the plane ride back. It's unfortunate what the cost of gas and such has done to our airlines. I honestly think that has a LOT to do with their diminishing "favors". But all the same, the other negatives were uncalled for. Boo.

I am such a believer in school and social settings. I love the ability to interact and communicate. I do worry, however, about all the negative influences when I look around and see how children are allowed to behave. I only hope that my kids grow up willing to talk with me, share with me, and allow me to help guide them in solid, positive decision making. Grrrr, parenting.
