The homeschooling continues until Marlie starts preschool after Labor Day. This week we made a couple of sensory bins. She went gaga over them! The one pictured above is her beach bin. It has sand, shells, palm trees and some tumbleweeds. She really got into it when I gave her a strainer to play with. She used it to pick up stands and capture the shells. I am gathering items for an ocean bin, garden bin, and Jurassic bin. She is really going to love that last one because she is into dinosaurs. |

Where did you buy the sand from? Our local toy and hardware stores have stopped carrying play sand, because there are supposedly health concerns about it. I looked into ordering some brand of "safe sand" and it was going to cost $400 to fill our sandbox! We currently dumped out all of our sand, because it was the dusty type of sand, which is what the supposed health concerns are about. Now I can't find any reasonably priced sand!
How fun!
Will sand be the basis for all the bins or could you use rice or beans or some other medium? The rice bin, of course would not take moisture well.
I wish I'd done more of that with my kids.
So much fun! I need to do something like this with my daughter.
I love all the different activities you have her engaged in:-)
Love the sensory bin idea! Marlie certainly seems to be enjoying hers! Since C won't start school until next fall we're going to try homeschooling three days a week this fall. Sensory bins are definitely first on the list. Think I'll start with a Jurassic one. Thanks for the inspiration!
Sensory bins are always fun for younger ones to play with. I like the one you have pictured.
