Movie:
Marley. This Bob Marley documentary charts his life from its origins, to his rise as a legendary Reggae artist and peace ambassador, to his untimely death at age 36. In-depth interviews with family, friends and collaborators spliced with concert performances and footage of the man himself paint a colorful picture. It's a complete and emotionally honest story (hearing his wife and mistress talk about how they jointly cared for him in his finally days was kind of weird, but it's obvious that they both loved him). The most touching parts were his children speaking about growing up with a larger-than-life father who was gone a lot and then losing him. I was left wondering what the world would be like if he had lived.

I was just talking about Bob Marley yesterday! My son is currently a yellow belt with a red stripe in martial arts. They added a green and black hatch mark to his belt to signify that he met certain goals for testing. I commented that his belt looked Rastafarian. He had no idea what I was talking about!!!! Eeeks, complete failure on my part as a mother!!!! We were driving in the car, but I whipped out my iPhone and started playing some reggae music and trying to explain Rastafarian culture to him. He said, "So they're hippies?" I totally freaked out, but could never explain it well enough to clear things up for him. We came home and i mentioned this to Mr. Mo. Lo and behold, Mr. Mo was a major Rastafarian historian and started telling us all about the culture and religion and so forth. I had no idea how complex the whole culture is and even looked it up on Wikipedia, since Mr. Mo has been known to talk a bunch of BS, while acting like he knows it all, on occasion.
Oh I would so watch this...I really like what Bob stood for!
I actually queued this up the other day! Waiting for the right time to watch it. Glad that it was received well.
Thank you for sharing this - I spent a month in Jamaica over winter break while in college and remember being moved when visiting Marley's home. I would love to watch this.
